Carpentry Department Foreman

Solomon Group is looking for an experienced, high-end design and build Carpentry Department Foreman to add to our growing Fabrication team.  This is a full-time position based in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The individual in this position will report directly to the Assistant Fabrication Manager.

The ideal candidate MUST have:
-Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
-The ability to effectively lead a crew;
-The ability to oversee a variety of projects simultaneously;
-Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving skills;
-A valid driver’s license;
-The ability to maintain an even temper under tight turnaround times and stressful conditions;
-Experience with exhibit, live performance and/or broadcast scenic environment fabrication techniques PREFERRED.

Responsibilities for this position include:
DEPARTMENT LEVEL
-Develop and perform routine maintenance schedule for all machinery and tooling;
-Set tooling/consumables per inventory levels and maintain stock levels;
-Work with Fabrication Manager to develop routine professional development training and quality control techniques for departmental staff;
-Attend regular department foreman meetings to discuss shop-wide protocols;
-Maintain a clean, safe work environment daily.

PROJECT LEVEL

-Work with other department managers to move projects through the fab shop in an efficient manner;

Fabrication Project Manager

Solomon Group is looking for a skilled and experienced Fabrication Project Manager to add to our growing team.  This is a full-time position based in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of fabrication project management experience that includes one or more of the following industries: events; exhibits; broadcast; brand activations.

The individual in this position will report directly to the Assistant Fabrication Manager.

Responsibilities for this position include:
ADMINISTRATIVE
-Attend project kickoff meetings where applicable;
-Perform site survey visits with clients when necessary;
-Work with Solomon Group Account Manager, client, designer and/or architect (as needed);
-Develop RFI list of all information needed prior to and throughout fabrication of project;
-Create and maintain project binder and use company-provided, internal project software;
-Work with internal dept. managers to produce and submit all material samples, finish samples, and technical drawings for approval;
-Set project fabrication / install schedule for all aspects of project to meet show dates / times set forth by client; 
-Work with Fabrication Manager to appropriately estimate staff labor needs for project, both in shop and on site.

RELEASED TO SHOP FLOOR
-Perform complete material / hardware take off;
-Source all necessary material and hardware while working within approved budget;
-Assign P.A. with ordering all necessary materials, hardware, and finishes;
-Work with all department managers to move project through shop in an efficient manner;
-Once project is released to department, delegate / perform work with efficiency;
-Work with department managers / fabricators to meet timeline goals while maintaining high quality and safety standards;
-Work with Assistant Fabrication Manager and Logistics Manager to schedule and properly pack all scenic elements for safe travel.

LOAD IN
Once truck arrives on site, receive truck and work with Solomon Group Production Manager, client, designer, and/or architect to properly load in all scenic elements according to approved design in a safe, efficient manner while ensuring client satisfaction.

LOAD OUT
-Work with Solomon Group Production Manager, client, designer and/or architect to properly load out and re-pack all scenic elements for safe travel back to SG Fabrication Shop;
-Once truck arrives back at shop, coordinate with Assistant Fabrication Manager the off-load, salvage, strike, recycle, and disposal of scenic elements;
-Restock all tools (small and large) into shop inventory.

The Fabrication Project Manager is a representative of Solomon Group and should have a detailed knowledge of all aspects of his/her assigned project at any given moment throughout its process. 

The ideal candidate MUST have:
-Strong verbal and written communication skills;
-Outstanding interpersonal skills;
-The ability to effectively lead a crew;
-A willingness to work with other Solomon Group team members, as well as clients, vendors and other partners to ensure that each project is completed at a high level;

Fabrication Director

Solomon Group is searching for a leadership-minded Fabrication Director to lead our expanding Fabrication Department.  This is a full-time position based in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The ideal candidate has excellent verbal and written communication skills; superb interpersonal skills; the ability to effectively lead a crew; experience and ability to create and manage departmental and project-based budgets; demonstrated ability to manage a variety of projects simultaneously; the ability to work under pressure and strict deadlines; and, of course, troubleshooting and problem solving skills.

The Fabrication Director acts as an advocate to senior management on behalf of the Fabrication Department.  In addition to strong leadership skills, the ideal candidate has an impressive background in live events, theatre, or permanent installations/attractions, and the skills and experience to drive our successful team of draftsmen, engineers and project managers.  You will oversee the entire Fabrication Department, working closely with all members of the fabrication team to develop engineering solutions and plans for fabrication.

Finishing/Paint Department Foreman

Solomon Group is looking for a Finishing/Paint Department Foreman to add to its expanding Fabrication Department.  This is a full-time position based in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a deadline-driven environment where our talented designers, project managers, fabricators and technicians produce national, award-winning entertainment productions.

The individual in this position will report to the Fabrication Manager.

The ideal candidate must have:
-- 3+ years finishing experience.
-- Experience with latex paints, faux finishing, sample making, creating a paint schedule and paint estimate.
-- Experience with commercial-grade finishes (lacquers, catalyzed paints, automotive finishes).
-- Experience using airless, air-assisted, and HVLP spray systems.
-- Experience working in a large automotive spray booth.
-- Ability to mix and custom match paint colors and stains.
-- Ability to produce a high-end spray finish on various materials, including but not limited to wood, plastic, acrylic, aluminum and steel.
-- Candidate may be asked to perform spray test prior to being offered employment.

Drivers (Part-time)

Solomon Group is currently searching for part-time Drivers to add to our Operations Department.  The ideal candidates will have the abilities, experience and qualifications necessary to operate any company or rental vehicle to pick up and deliver equipment in a safe and timely manner.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions include:

  • > Assist with load preparation. Load vehicles to ensure proper positioning of product and secure load to avoid shifting or damage in transit.
  • > Plan trips for the most economical and efficient route and ensure the timely delivery of orders. Conduct pre and post trip inspections of vehicle, checking fluid levels, operation of mechanisms and safety systems.
  • > Drive to delivery location, operating within legal parameters for weights, hours and speed, and in compliance with all defined regulations. Maintain security of load. Record hours driven and other required data on vehicle log.
  • > Deliver load to the correct location and comply with all necessary dock procedures. Direct and assist with unloading the truck. Obtain signatures, printed name, date, and time of delivery from on-site contact.
  • > Remain in regular communication with the Logistics Manager.

Ideal candidates must have:

  • > Problem-solving skills.
  • > The ability and willingness to be punctual and dependable.
  • > Knowledge of safe work practices.
  • > Knowledge of D.O.T. rules and regulations.

Production Designer

We’re looking for someone with 3+ years experience as a production designer/scenic designer/rendering artist with a portfolio boasting event, brand activation, broadcast, attractions and architainment projects.

-Comfort both initiating and developing ideas;
-The capability to own a production’s design from conception through 3D modeling/rendering and construction documentation;
-Adeptness at taking a collaborator’s design concept and improving, rendering and detailing it;
-The ability to demonstrate smart environment ideas that integrate lighting, video projection and/or LED display technology into dynamic scenic elements;

IT & Data Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

Solomon Group is seeking a multi-talented, enthusiastic IT professional to fill a wide range of IT/computer systems related needs.  The IT & Data Manager will work closely with management and database workgroup, and will have a range of responsibilities, including database administration, feature design and development, end user training, application support, and troubleshooting. The company uses a Mendix based database system for documentation, client tracking, billing, and management reporting.  This is a full-time position based in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Responsibilities:

• Creation, administration, development, maintenance, documentation, and troubleshooting of a complex Mendix based data system.
• Administering other IT needs of the company including VOIP phone system, Google Apps, inventory of computer hardware (non-rental equipment only), Dropbox and on-site server/network maintenance and configuration for all locations.
• Manage the user interface and other maintenance and update tasks for our rental management system.
• Training new staff on use of the database, and providing ongoing application support to end users.
• UI and layout design, scripting, and creating or modifying fields, calculations, tables and relationships.
• Support future project to migrate data from our existing solution to a SQL-based system; administer this system, as well as possible maintenance and ongoing development of components of our existing Filemaker system.
• Other duties as they arise related to the needs of the development of the database.
• End user training, application support and troubleshooting.
• Alert team when new versions of software or patches are available and recommended.

Requirements:

• 5+ years experience working in IT with extensive database solution development from top to bottom.
• 3+ years experience working with Mendix.
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related subject.
• Experience with Google Apps for Business is a plus.
• Familiarity with working on complex server-based solutions and mixed platform environments.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
• Experience in the entertainment/event/attraction space is a plus.
• SQL/Oracle experience a plus.

Welder (Part-time)

Solomon Group is currently searching for an Aluminum Welder to add to our talented Fabrication Department.  The ideal candidate will have three or more years of experience with both tig and mig welding.  This position will report directly to the Fabrication Manager and the Director of Fabrication.

The individual in this position is needed to produce integral components used in the shop through the fabrication and welding of key parts of the assembly. The right applicant will work closely with the other staff members in the Fabrication Department, each of whom produce key parts of the overall project.

Responsibilities include:
• Fabricating metal assemblies;
• Welding various components;
• Assembling components;
• Performing other duties in support of fabrication.

Ideal candidates must have:
• Basic math skills;
• The ability to read and follow technical drawings and drafting;
• Some CNC experience;

Solomon Group is currently hiring Warehouse Assistants to support our Operations Department with the accurate shipping and receiving of all show materials.  These are entry-level positions that will report to our Warehouse Supervisor.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Pulling and prepping show materials;
• Assisting with shop maintenance and cleaning;
• Running simple errands such as pickups from vendors and deliveries to workers on site in the New Orleans area;
• Preparing production elements for shipping;
• Loading and unloading equipment from trucks, both at the warehouse and on site.

Ideal candidates must have:
• The ability to lift up to 75 lbs;
• A clean driving record (Class D license a plus);
• Ability to work a flexible schedule;
• Forklift experience (preferred);
• A positive, can-do attitude and the eagerness to be part of a busy, productive team;
• The desire to learn from experienced technicians.

Compensation

Responsibilities include:
• Assisting carpenters and other craftsmen by gathering and prepping materials, and generally helping to make the work process smooth;
• Assisting in shop maintenance and cleaning;
• Running simple errands such as pick ups at hardware stores and deliveries to workers on-site in the New Orleans area;
• Preparing production elements for shipping;

Ideal candidates must have:

Carpenter (Part-time)

Solomon Group is looking for an experienced, high-end design and build fabrication shop carpenter/millworker/machinist.  This is a part-time position based in New Orleans, Louisiana.

We are looking for talented people with previous experience in event, exhibition, set and retail fixture fabrication.  Must have a minimum of three (3) years of carpentry work experience.

The right candidate must be able to work cleanly, efficiently and safely while maintaining high finish quality under short deadlines.  Previous cabinet joinery, millwork, metalworking, laminate and plastics experience in a shop setting is needed.  Work to include fabrication, install and strike.

Must be able to read shop plans.  Experience in any of the following: CNC operating and programming, large-format printing, vinyl application, sculpting, casting or spray-finishing -- while not required -- is a big plus.

Responsible for fabrication, maintenance, service and installation of equipment as related to the event and rental production industry.  The person hired will cut, sand, build, construct, paint and repair wood product, build scenic/stage projects, and assist in the fabrication and construction of sets on show sites.  The individual in this position is responsible for completing projects in the most efficient and effective manner.

Responsibilities include:

  • -Maintenance and service of equipment on an as needed and scheduled basis;
  • -Custom fabrication, assembly and finish work of wood, metal and plastic products as related to Company business;
  • -Troubleshooting and repair of rental production equipment;
  • -Responsible for operation of the following equipment: table saw, drill press, miter saw/chop saw, router (hand and table), air tools, fasteners, wrenches, air sprayers, etc.;
  • -Assist with the preventative maintenance of equipment;
  • -Work in a safe, positive manner showing respect to others and contributing to the team;
  • -Assist with and work production events as needed;
  • -Occasionally work on installation sites in assisting our Project Managers.

Compensation
The hourly rate for this part-time/temporary position will be based on experience.
