When Thanksgiving rolls around, New Orleaneans know that it also signals the start of a great college football weekend in town, with the annual clash between Southern and Grambling State Universities. Taking over the helm this year was the New Orleans Convention Company, who have brought a variety of innovative marketing and programming elements to the popular gathering. The day before the big game, both schools’ provide a spectacle of sound through their huge talented marching bands, coupled with their fraternity and sorority step groups. This annual match is called the Battle of the Bands, and Solomon Group was asked to provide an innovative visual display to cut the half of the dome holding the performance, but also provide scenery that had never been seen before. To accomplish this, we hung over 1000 square feet of different resolution LED screens from the dome ceiling, and created a display whose brightness limited the eye from wondering past the stage, but that also created a scenic dimension never seen by this group.
