Doing Our Part to Make It Right.

Brad Pitt’s Make It Right Foundation Gala

In New Orleans, we love a good party—especially celebrations that help vital local charities pursue their mission. And in March 2012, Solomon Group was honored to help create a one-of-a-kind event in support of our city’s renewal after the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina.

The Make It Right Foundation began when actor Brad Pitt came to New Orleans, identified the need to bring displaced residents back to the Lower Ninth Ward and set out to build 150 stunning, yet remarkably efficient and sustainable houses where these residents’ homes once stood. The Foundation’s event, “Night to Make It Right,” was conceived to raise funds to continue construction, which was 50% complete at the time of the event.  Hosted by Pitt, New Orleans’s “adopted son,” the gala featured an exquisite menu by Emeril Lagasse and John Besh, followed by performances from Rihanna, Sheryl Crow, Seal, Snoop Dogg and Kanye West.

The Solomon team jumped at the chance to partner with the Make It Right crew, along with stunning creative talents of Re:Be Design and Rehage Entertainment, to create a visually stunning set. Inspired by the avant-garde houses the Foundation is helping to build, the set featured both video-mapped projection and LED screens integrated at certain times into a seamless picture and at others into complementary scenery. Re:Be's Stefan Beese designed the production which included a complex lighting scheme that gave each presenter, including Brad Pitt, Ellen Degeneres and Randy Jackson, and the featured performers, the perfect mood for their piece of the program. Along with the visual elements, Solomon Group worked along side Rehage to call the complex show (coordinating the production and communications), resulting in a tightly orchestrated, highly engaging affair for the more than 1,200 attendees from around the world.

Not only did this one-time event exceed the organizer’s expectations, but it also raised the bar by which all future high-end fundraisers will be judged in New Orleans. Most important, with the funds raised from this single evening, Make It Right now has the means to complete this exceptional project over the next few years.
