Louisiana Children's Museum

For three decades, the Louisiana Children’s Museum thrived in New Orleans’ Warehouse District. In 2019, the institution opened a stunning new home on an 8.5-acre site in City Park, designed by Mithun Architects. The new space reimagines how children and families connect with nature, learning, and play, blending indoor and outdoor experiences across galleries, gardens, and water features.

A New Chapter in City Park

From the beginning, Solomon Group partnered with the museum to bring this vision to life. Our role extended beyond fabrication — it was about translating the museum’s values into tangible experiences. One of the most meaningful elements came from incorporating children’s own artwork into the environmental graphics and donor recognition system. Drawings created in the museum’s workshops were integrated throughout the building and credited to each child artist, celebrating creativity as a core part of the brand.

We also collaborated with museum staff to weave in deeply personal touches, such as a wall featuring quotes from grandparents about their hopes for the next generation. These details connect visitors across ages, reinforcing the museum’s mission to inspire lifelong learning and family connection.

Impact

Since opening, the new Louisiana Children’s Museum has become a landmark destination for families and educators, praised for its integration of play, education, and environment. In Summer 2020, the project was honored with the SEGD Global Design Award for Placemaking & Identity Signage, recognizing the innovative approach to branding and wayfinding.

By blending storytelling, design, and fabrication, Solomon Group was proud to help shape a space where children and families in New Orleans can learn, play, and grow for generations to come.
