Soldiers Memorial Military Museum

In 2019, the historic Soldiers Memorial in St. Louis reopened following a $30 million restoration and revitalization. The Missouri Historical Society, working with exhibit designers Gallagher & Associates, envisioned galleries that would balance history with innovation — creating an accessible, engaging space that connected past sacrifices to present-day audiences.

Honoring Service Through Storytelling

Solomon Group was selected to help realize this vision, serving as a fabrication and integration partner for both the permanent core galleries and rotating special exhibits. Our role extended beyond fabrication alone: our team also delivered wayfinding signage, AV systems integration, and custom casework solutions. Together, these elements ensured that visitors could navigate the museum with ease while experiencing stories told through dynamic media and carefully preserved artifacts.

Impact

Since reopening, the revitalized Soldiers Memorial has become a centerpiece of remembrance and civic pride in St. Louis. Exhibits highlight the personal stories of service members, veterans, and their families, combining historic artifacts with interactive experiences that resonate across generations.

The building and surrounding plaza have also been widely recognized, earning honors such as the Preserve Missouri Award and the Barrier-Free America Award for accessibility. While those accolades reflect the success of the broader restoration effort, they underscore the Memorial’s significance as a national model for how historic institutions can both preserve heritage and expand public engagement.

By blending craftsmanship, technology, and interpretive design, Solomon Group contributed to a museum experience that not only preserves history but also fosters connection between generations.
